WHY WE ARE HERE
and
WHAT WE BELIEVE
At First Baptist Church, Bridgeport, our purpose is dynamic and keeping with God’s design for His church. We communicate God’s message through evangelism, educate His people through discipleship, demonstrate His love through ministry, and celebrate His presence through worship. Our church was founded with a mission to spread the love and teachings of Jesus Christ to our community.
Our dedicated leadership team and volunteers work tirelessly to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who walk through our doors. We are committed to serving others through our Sunday Worship Services, Bible Study Groups, and Community Outreach Programs, and we believe that by sharing our faith, we can make a positive impact on the world around us.
Here is a brief statement of our doctrine.
The Bible
We hold firmly to the inspiration and authority of the Bible. It is God’s written Word and is our only guide in matters of faith and conduct.
The Triune God
Ours is one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; three distinct Persons, yet one in being, essence and power.
Jesus Christ
Jesus is the Son of God, the express image of the Father, yet 100% man born of the virgin Mary. He took on humanity to reveal God to the world. He is the Savior of this world, taking on our sins through death on a cross and resurrecting so that we might live eternally with God.
Salvation
Apart from Christ, all men are guilty of sin before God and unable to save themselves. Salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone. He showed His matchless love for us when He shed His blood for our sins that we might be reconciled to God and enjoy the gift of everlasting life.
The Believer's Future hope
We have hope, [confident certainty], in a glorious future because of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead; His glorified bodily presence at the right hand of God as our only High Priest and Advocate; and the promise of His imminent return. Our hope is derived from literal, historical, grammatical, contextual and dispensational interpretation of the Bible.
